Abzena is proudly opening a brand new, state of the art manufacturing facility in Sanford, NC. In preparation, the Proposal Management team is looking to hire a Senior CMC Proposal Manager that will develop and lead the proposal process for this site. 

The CMC Proposal Manager works with a wide variety of cross functional teams including proposal development partners to achieve key milestones. It is responsible for generating proposals accurately and timely for securing new business.

  • Write and manage proposals and quotes primarily for cGMP manufacture of biologics such as antibodies, antibody fragments and fusion proteins, intended for late phase or commercial production. Proposals should effectively convey the business strategy and messaging themes with compelling content.
  • Manage and support proposal processes to ensure timely preparation and delivery of requested documents. Initiate and facilitate meetings and/or corroboration with proposal, project managers, business development and technical teams to ensure complete and timely response(s) to proposal(s).
  • Collaborate with internal staff to gather information for proposal and business development documents; coordinate internal evaluation process for customer requests.
  • Contribute to the assessment/development of project-specific costs/pricing/margins and timeline.
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously, as needed in a flexible and prioritized manner. Business-critical proposals may need to be written outside standard working hours.
  • Write and manage proposals and quotes for secondary areas covering early preclinical development or conjugate manufacture through cross-training.
  • Evaluate and summarize incoming inquiries for Abzena's service from researchers/drug developers and provide initial response to inquiries on Abzena's offered services.
  • Use professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in business, science or related discipline. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in bio/pharmaceutical industry business development and/or research and development industry. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of late-stage CMC experience of the biopharmaceutical lifecycle from development and manufacturing to licensing is essential.
  • Knowledge of biopharmaceutical  development and/or manufacturing.
  • Knowledgeable of the biopharmaceutical regulatory environment.
  • Ability to influence and persuade to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritize multiple proposals under pressure.
  • Knowledge of budgeting process.


  • Previous experience in an operations or consulting role in the pharmaceutical/ biologic industry.
  • Ability to engage and work with executive level leadership.
  • Has worked in a fast-moving startup environment.

Work Schedule and Travel Requirement

  • Regular business hours, additional support as required by the project’s schedules.
  • Ability to travel between Abzena sites (Bristol PA, San Diego CA, and Sanford NC) 

Physical/Mental Requirement

  • Ability to stand for 1-2 hours at a time, sit for 2 to 3 hours at a time. Require working in an office setting where sitting and computer usage would be the norm.  
  • Capable of accessing the manufacturing areas as needed.
