Contract /Sub Contract Manager

Location: Filton


Job Purpose

Working within an integrated Procurement and Commercial Function, this role is to manage the Customer and Sub-Contractor activities on prominent opportunities.  Key to success will be the Contact Management and ability to foster strategic relationships with diverse range organisations to ensure there is clear and robust supply chain and commercial position with our Sub-Contractor and Customers.  This will involve working closely with the internal integrated campaign bid team, external suppliers and partners.

A successful track record and ability to deliver solutions to complex challenges with strong communication skills, stakeholder management and the ability to influencing will be required to deliver in this role.

Due to the short timescales required, we need someone able to start at short notice and hit the ground running. The role is currently envisaged to be required for 3-6 months with the opportunity.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Lead the both Head Contract and Sub-Contract activities as part of the Integrated Business Team (IPT) for a key contract and business winning activities.
  • Draft, prepare and negotiate complex contract documentation using standard and non-standard formats
  • Promoting customer intimacy in internal and external relationships
  • Focal point for project Customer and Sub-Contractors for all commercial matters
  • Identify solutions for complex areas of potential risk /opportunity e.g. deliver commercial solutions/mitigations
  • Basic understanding of SAP or equivalent integrated business systems

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Procurement/Commercial prime contracting experience
  • Commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • A proactive person who can build enduring relationships with Customers, partners, sub-contractors and internal teams
  • Experience of Defence, Security and Aerospace sectors
  • Experience of complex US/European Supplychain and Sub-Contract Management
  • Promote a culture of best practice and sharing of knowledge within the function and across the wider business

Intrinsic Factors

  • Due to the nature of the tasks involved, any candidate being considered must be capable of achieving full SC security clearance.
  • The role will require occasional UK travel


Must have skills

  • Contract Drafting
  • Drafting, negotiating and administration of complex terms and conditions of contract
  • Good understanding of Business Systems, negotiation/liaising with customers/suppliers.
